ROCHESTER, NEW YORK June 8, 2000 (DeafSports) MSM Productions, Ltd. has launched DeafSports.com as the newest attraction to the expanding Deaf.com family of Websites.
DeafSports.com will feature news, profiles, a scoreboard, calendar, schedules, all-time records, historical facts, sport-specific and research information, a directory, classified ads, and several interactive features: chatrooms, polls, forum, a store, and games.
Robert Alfred Hawkins has been appointed Editor of DeafSports.com. In addition to providing sports-oriented content for DEAF.com, Hawkins, 26, will also work for DEAF LIFE as a sportswriter.
Prior to joining MSM Productions, Ltd./DEAF.com, Hawkins was with WebbyNation, Inc. (WNI) as Sports Editor of DeafNation. He was with DeafNation since its premiere issue in October 1995. He resigned from WNI in December 1999.
Hawkins has three main goals for DeafSports.com: innovation, independence, and integrity. He says: "DeafSports.com is the smart sports-oriented media solution for the Deaf community. DeafSports.com will be built exactly as I envisioned it for years. Ive held onto my dreams through volatile times. President Matthew Moore and his loyal associates practice solid business values, and their honesty captured my long-built interest in them. Im excited about the rejuvenation of DEAF LIFE. We share realistic views on business and the Deaf community."
Says Moore: "Im happy to have Robert on board, and look forward to working with him to develop a variety of exciting new features on DeafSports.com. Because I know that sports are an important part of the Deaf community, Ive wanted to develop an independent sports-oriented Website for DEAF.com from the start. Im pleased that he will be contributing sports features to DEAF LIFE too. I want DeafSports.com to be the most comprehensive, useful, and enjoyable Deaf sports-oriented site on the Web."
Moore adds, "I dont intend DeafSports.com to be a political site, engaging in wholesale criticism of athletes, advocates, executives, or organizations. The emphasis will be on providing information, and on taking a positive approach for the betterment of the Deaf sports community."
To increase the Deaf sports communitys visibility, DeafSports.com plans to establish strategic relationships with deaf, hard-of-hearing, and mainstream retailers, media, sports, and advocacy organizations. An advisory group comprised of several well-known figures in, and supporters of, the Deaf sports community is being assembled.
Marketing opportunities are available with advertising and sponsorship options offered at reasonable rates for both commercial companies and non-profit organizations.
DeafSports.com will be launched in phases over the next 6 months and will cover a number of major events this summer while accepting news contributions and event announcements. Fall 2000 scholastic schedules are being sought for immediate posting. News, features, and profiles will be incorporated by August.
